Internationalization of the PT ISCIII IC – SCReN

The PT ISCIII IC – SCReN Platform is part of the ECRIN-ERIC Network.

ECRIN (European Clinical Research Infrastructure Network) is a non-profit organisation and part of the ERIC (European Research Infrastructure Consortium). It operates within the field of independent/academic clinical research.

The network connects national clinical research infrastructures across its member countries and facilitates the development of multinational clinical studies by offering regulatory advice and operational support services—always in compliance with current European Union (EU) legislation and with the endorsement of its member states.

At present, ECRIN brings together 13 EU countries: 12 full members (Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Poland, Spain, and Switzerland) and 1 observer (Slovakia).

The PT ISCIII IC – SCReN Platform serves as the national partner of the European network in Spain, through a framework agreement. As part of this collaboration, the Clinical Research Units (UICs, CTUs, or Clinical Trial Units) within SCReN are integrated as clinical research nodes of the ECRIN-ERIC infrastructure.

How is the PT ISCIII IC – SCReN articulated with ECRIN-ERIC?

In general, the collaboration is based on the cooperation between the National Network Coordination structure (Scientific Partner) and the European Correspondent (EuCo), who acts as ECRIN’s representative for implementing the network’s activities in each member country.

In Spain, the Internationalization Working Group (WG) serves as the liaison between the National Network and the EuCo. It integrates the Coordinating Centre of the Scientific Partner, the EuCo, and the node that hosts the EuCo (ECRIN National Hub of the Scientific Partner) within the WG coordination structure.
